Splatoon 2 will support voice chat

From President Tatsumi Kimishima: “Splatoon 2 in particular will offer voice chat, a much-requested feature from our overseas fans, using smart-devices and the ability to bring eight Nintendo Switch systems together for eight-person local multiplayer. In this way, we are working to create titles and environments to invigorate the competitive gaming scene so that a wider demographic of customers can enjoy, talk about, and continue playing the Nintendo Switch.”

President Tatsumi Kimishima on 3DS successor and much more

All of the following is thanks to Dr. Serkan Toto. The first part comes from a Kyoto Shinbone article with Nikkei interview snippets after the bump: “In it, Nintendo president Kimishima is quoted as saying he considers a 3DS successor because he sees a need and market for it. He doesn’t give more details, but he seems to actually mean an entirely new machine, not a 3DS update or refresh.”

1) More info from the Nikkei interview with Nintendo president Kimishima. He says he expects the Switch to sell about as well as the Wii.

2) [Very bold statement: the Wii sold 101 million times.] He says that just like the Wii, the Switch offers a unique way of playing games.

3) Nintendo plans to introduce yearly and monthly paid plans for the online service. Again, price range is 2-3,000 yen/year ($17.70-$26.50).

4) Kimishima reiterates that 3DS and Switch businesses will run in parallel. Says the 3DS is i.e. good for kids, as an entry into gaming.

5) Asked about mobile partner DeNA, he says he doesn’t want to discuss things such as an expansion of the capital alliance with them.

6) Kimishima calls the last fiscal a “bottom” year for Nintendo. He says that the financial performance will improve from this year on.

7) Asked about new businesses, he says he right now can’t exactly pinpoint when those movies based on Nintendo characters will come out.

8) He says he will decide what to do about Nintendo’s announced plans in the “quality of life” business around mid-2017. /end

Fire Emblem Heroes is now available

Fire Emblem Heroes is available in Japan and requires 69MB for the initial download with further data required shortly after linking to your My Nintendo account. The Japanese version, just like Miitomo and Super Mario Run, has an English language option. After the tutorial there is far more data to download so the recommendation of 1GB is probably accurate. You can use the same account on two devices (my devices are set to different regions too). I’m apparently not alone in experiencing communication issues. More to follow…

Orbs (in-app-purchases) are priced at 3 for ¥240, 10 for ¥720, 23 for ¥1,600, 35 for ¥2,400, 48 for ¥3,200, 75 for ¥4,800 and 140 for ¥8,800. You can of-course download 10 for free on My Nintendo (see all applicable rewards here). You can also accrue 100 Platinum Points for linking accounts and for clearing the Prologue and each of the nine chapters. Cleared the Prologue which consists of three battles. As well as the Story Maps, Special Maps, Arena Duels, Training Tower and ???.
